Choosing a solar system
Since February 2026, new solar users in Pakistan are on net billing under NEPRA's Prosumer Regulations: units you export to the grid earn a much lower buyback rate than you pay for grid units. That makes it more important to size a system around your own daytime use rather than the biggest system your roof can hold. Always confirm current rules with your electricity company before signing.
System types
- On-grid: no battery; lowest cost; switches off during load-shedding
- Hybrid: with batteries; stores daytime solar for the evening and covers outages
- Off-grid: for sites without a reliable supply
What to compare in quotes
- Panel brand, model and wattage, with datasheets
- Inverter brand and whether it has a service centre in your city
- Battery type and usable capacity, if included
- Structure, cabling, breakers, surge protection and earthing
- Warranties in writing and who handles the net billing paperwork
Get at least three written quotes, and ask each installer to explain how they sized the system from your bills.

Questions about solar panels & inverters
Is solar still worth it under net billing?
For homes with good daytime use, yes, because every unit you use yourself saves the full grid price. Correct sizing is key.
Do I need batteries?
Not always. Batteries help if you have load-shedding or high evening use, as they store daytime solar for later.
What happened to net metering?
New applicants since February 2026 are on net billing. Existing agreements signed earlier are reported to continue on their original terms until they expire.
How do I choose an inverter?
Pick a reputable brand with a local service centre, sized correctly for your panels and loads.
