Choosing lighting and electrical fittings
Light colour matters
- Warm white (around 2700 to 3000K): cosy, good for lounges and bedrooms
- Neutral white (around 4000K): good for kitchens, studies and offices
- Cool white (6000K and above): very bright and bluish, often used in shops and utility areas
Mixing colours in one room usually looks patchy, so choose one per space.
Quality checks for Pakistani conditions
- Voltage fluctuations shorten the life of cheap LED drivers. Ask about the driver quality and warranty.
- Check the colour rendering (CRI) for kitchens and dressing areas, where true colours matter.
- For profile and strip lighting, ask about heat sinks and power supplies.
Electrical safety
- Use correctly sized copper wiring for each circuit, especially for ACs
- Install breakers (MCBs) and proper earthing
- Run wiring in conduit, including above false ceilings
- Buy switches and sockets from authorised dealers to avoid counterfeits
Going solar? Ask your solar installer which circuits to put on backup.
Questions about lighting & electrical
Which light colour is best for a lounge?
Warm white (around 3000K) creates a comfortable atmosphere. Many homes use neutral white in kitchens and warm white in living areas.
Why do my LED lights fail quickly?
Voltage fluctuations and poor-quality drivers are common causes. Choose reputable products with a warranty.
Do I need earthing in my house?
Yes. Proper earthing protects people and appliances. Ask a qualified electrician to check it.
Can I add lights after a false ceiling is built?
It is much harder. Plan every light position before the ceiling frame goes up.
